The Ethics Review Committee of the Provincial Department of Health Services of the North-western province (ERC-NWP) is mandated by the Provincial Director of Health Services to provide guidance, advice and decision on ethics on health or medical research involving humans, tissue of humans or personal information on humans.
|
The objective of the ERC-NWP is to safeguard the dignity, rights and safety of actual and potential research participants. Established in the year 2014 this ERC became the first ever ERC of a Provincial Department of Health Services in Sri Lanka. In 2015 this ERC obtained the approval from the Ministry of Health as a recognised ERC.

Clarence from the ERC-NWP is mandatory in the following conditions.
|
|
➧ The research is within the scope of health or medicine involving humans, tissue of humans or personal information on humans
➧ The research utilise the institutions, staff, care seekers or data of the Department Health Services - NWP
➧ Such institution (or at least one of the institutions in case of a multi centre research) is not having a recognised ERC.
